Crane That Collapsed, Killing 1, Is Removed From NYC Street

c01A construction crane has been removed from the New York City street where it collapsed, killing a pedestrian.

The area in lower Manhattan was still blocked off Sunday morning, but the crumpled steel from the 565-foot-long crane is now gone.

Work crews had sliced it up into dozens of pieces. They used other cranes to load the pieces onto flatbed trucks.

Other workers have been concentrating on crushed water pipes and street repairs.

Wall Street worker David Wichs was killed by the crane as he walked on the street Friday. Three other people were hurt by falling debris.

City officials say it might take weeks to determine why the crane crashed as it was being lowered during strong winds.
