f[VIDEO & PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Two wildfires have burned hundreds of acres in Harriman State Park, and residents in Monsey / Rockland County were reporting that the smell of fire and smoke was all across the area.

Fire officials say the fire started Sunday afternoon in the park along Route 202 at Wilder Road in Suffern. That fire scorched around 30 acres of forest before being contained.

Another fire started near Lake Sebago along Route 17 and is still burning.

That fire has burned around 130 acres.

It is unknown what started the fires.

Mayor Marshall Katz of  the Village of Wesley Hills wrote the following letter to residents:

Dear Residents,

Many of you have seen or smelled the smoke from the wildfire currently burning in Harriman State Park West of Route 202 between Lime Kiln Road and Wilder Road. I have been in touch with the Village Fire Inspector and the Ramapo Police. At this time there is no expectation that this fire will threaten any homes in the Village. Residents who are in the smoky area should remain indoors and keep their windows closed. The State Forest Rangers are monitoring the fire and Rockland County Emergency Services is on alert in case their help is needed. If and when I receive any further alerts I will send out another email.
