Privately held Spirit Airlines said on Tuesday that it would extend flight cancellations through Thursday as a pilot union strike continued.

Pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association walked off the job on Saturday after U.S.-mediated contract talks failed to bridge differences over pay and scheduling. Spirit flights have been canceled since Saturday.

Miramar, Florida-based Spirit, known for its low fares, operates more than 150 flights a day, mainly to the eastern United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.
