Just hours ahead of the midnight expiration of the Tal Law on Tuesday night, pro-draft activists were in Bnei Brak handing out literature and flowers calling on chareidim to serve in the IDF.
With the frum velt focused on syiumei hashas this week, the flyers were viewed as particularly offensive and it did not take long for a verbal confrontation to errupt. Residents grabbed the handouts and tossed them as well as tossing the flowers as they viewed the actions of the activists as an intentional act of provocation.
Ynet quotes “Moshe” as telling the ‘sucker’s tent’ activists that “For every 100 soldiers you bring to study torah in beis medrash I will bring you 100 chareidim to serve in the army”.
The activists explained they chose to come at this time since the Tal Law was expiring and the chareidim are now compelled to serve. Residents shouted at them, and some threw items at them as well as the meeting escalated into an unfriendly environment.
The activists did not have a response when asked if they also handed out flyers and flowers in the Israeli Arab municipality of Um el-Fahm.
