Rav Avichai Yitzchak z”l was niftar on Sunday 12 Cheshvan 5773 in Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital following years battling an illness.
The niftar studied in Yeshivat Porat Yosef in Yerushalayim and after getting married he moved to Zichron Yaakov, where he learned in a local kollel. He then worked for Badatz Sheiris Yisrael as a shochet/bodek for over 20 years and wrote the seforim ‘מסורת בני תימן’.
He was viewed as an expert on shechitah and was a well-known entity in Zichron, where he also built a shul and mikve.
The niftar is survived by 11 children, three of whom are married and the youngest is 5. He wrote a will last week, in which he calls on his children to continue minhagei Teiman, and his levaya was also conducted in accordance to Yemenite minhagim.
The levaya took place on Monday in Zichron Yaakov and the niftar was escorted by local rabbonim and rabbonim of the badatz.
