Most of us would rather save money and buy a cheaper ticket than get a few extra miles. This is why airlines like JetBlue and Southwest are making money.

What they really do is reward the once a year traveler who dont care about frequent flyer miles by allowing them to purchase the cheapest fare available and stick it to the frequent flyers who in order to maintain status are sometimes forced to buy a higher priced ticket. I know, I am a victim of this unfair policy.
