Liberty, NY: Ferndale-Loomis Rd & Route 55 Is Dangerous Intersection

cjaUse caution as you approach the intersection of Ferndale-Loomis Road and State Route 55 in the Town of Liberty.

For years, retired teacher and social worker Denise Patti has witnessed collisions. Just this month, Rock Hill resident Kim Gessner was struck and killed on the intersection.

“There’s difficulty with the line of sight. The road curves and goes down a hill so you can’t see the cars come up. If you look to the right and then the left and then go across, it’s too late if a car is coming,” said Patti.

Springing into action, Patti contacted several local and state agencies. The town’s supervisor says a wide range of options can be considered.

Residents say this busy intersection has been a problem for decades but now on the heels of a tragic incident, they hope that something will finally get done.

The town supervisor and the county Division of Public Works commissioner will meet to discuss the issue. No date has been set for that meeting yet.

  1. I spend 2 summers at that corner. And either witnessed or saw aftermaths or accidentas countless times.
I my opinion the best st solution would be a traffic light. But one may argue that that would slow traffic.
