Former Thompson Supervisor Kaufman Dies; Levaya Held At Monticello Shul

kFormer Thompson Town Supervisor David Kaufman, who died on Friday, June 13, was laid to rest on Sunday. He was 85.

Kaufman, who began his political career as a trustee in the Village of Monticello, later became its mayor and town supervisor. He also served as chairman of the Sullivan County Board of Supervisors.

Current Thompson Supervisor William Reiber remembers Kaufman as the man who got him into politics at age 27 as a young dad with three small children.

“They were really good, good, good people and were true to their community and true to their hearts,” Reiber said.

Funeral services for Kaufman, who was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, were held Sunday at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello.
