Yartzheit for R’ Dovid Lebowitz ZATZAL

This evening there will be a Yartzheit Lizecher Nishmas the founding Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim in Queens, Hagoen R’ Dovid Lebowitz ZATZAL at 8:00PM in Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim (147-01 147th Street). Hagoen R’ Hemoch Lebowitz Shlita (Rosh Yeshiva) and Hagoen R’ Binyomin Kaminetsky Shlita (Rosh Yeshivas Toras Chaim, South-shore) will be delivering Hespaidim.

Australia: Yungerman hit by a car

A 26 year old Yungerman was hit by a car last evening in Australia. He was rushed into emergency surgery. Please be Mispallel for Yehoshua Efraim Ben Chana Yita. He is member of the newly established Lakewood Kollel (this past summer).

New York: Jewish Nazi hunter dies

Elliot Welles, a Holocaust survivor who found the officer who ordered his mother’s death and turned that personal triumph into a relentless crusade to track down fugitive Nazis, has died at the age of 79. Welles died of an apparent heart attack at his Bronx home last Tuesday.

Israel: Dollar hits five year low

dollar.jpgshekel.jpgThe dollar’s slide continued with the opening of the foreign currency market today. The shekel appreciated 0.09% today, and the shekel-dollar representative rate was set at NIS 4.23/$, its lowest level in five years. In dollar options yesterday, the shekel-dollar exchange rate fell below NIS 4.22/$, but in corrected upwards slightly today in mixed trading in international markets.

Egged adds more Mehadrin lines

Egged, the largest bus company in Israel with 1 million passengers a day, operates 24 inter-city “mehadrin” lines on which men and women are segregated. Egged refers to them using the euphemism “designated (ye’udim)” lines. (more…)

Jackie Mason settles lawsuit with missionary group

Jackie Mason made a cameo appearance in federal court Monday, accepting an apology from the missionary group “Jews for Garbage” in return for dropping a lawsuit in which he claimed the group damaged him by using his name and likeness in a pamphlet. (more…)

Monsey: Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim court case settled

Ramapo is reportedly settling its case against a yeshiva developer charged with running a pre-school out of a trailer on its Grandview Avenue construction trailer. Deputy Town Attorney Meryl Troodler said today that she couldn’t discuss the settlment’s specifics until the agreement was signed by Mosdos Chofetz Chaim. (more…)

Teen sentenced for murder of UK Jewish activist

Last evening a fire broke out at the Avenue J Florist at midnight. The store was basically destroyed. B”H there were no injuries.

Lakewood: School bus crash

In Lakewood this morning, a school-bus carrying Yeshiva children to Tiferes Bais Yaakov was involved in a car accident on Lakewood New Egypt Road and Pine Circle Drive. Lakewood Hatzolah responded, but B”H no injuries were reported.
