I saw recently an Democratic ad against Romney that showed making many contradictory statements about various issues...labeling him (I forget the exact language but the equivalent of) a flip-flop. Umm, a campaign against a northeasterner (he was governor of Massachusetts) with a lot of money who flip flops vs. an unpopular president? Doesn't sound like FDR or Truman...
More like George W. Bush 2004.

Two differences, in my opinion, are worth noting. As much as Iraq was unpopular in 2004, I don't think it had the same emotion as our bad economy does today (which effects more people). Also, Kerry ended up being quite aloof in campaign that to both political sides was "very significant". Romney, personally, doesn't have such problems. Though one comment deemed insensitive to people struggling the in economy could do the trick...
