Israel is the only country in the world that values the life of its soldiers more than the life of its civilian poulation. The purpose of the IDF is the defend the civilian population-not to sit there looking pretty. Unfortunately, a ground invasion may result in casualties R"L. However, the fact is that no war has ever been won from the air. If the USA would have attempted to win WW2 from the air and never invaded Europe, Nazi Germany would still be ruling it. There would have been no concentration camp survivors. England probably would have eventually been invaded.

The fact is that until ground troops go in and conquer the areas from where the rockets are being fired (thereby putting Israel out of rocket range) they will continue. This is simply unacceptable and no country can claim to be sovereign and accept rocket fire on its population as an unavoidable phenomenon.

Naive, yes but in the wrong area. The multi-billion dollar luxury hotel and shopping complex in Gaza is owned by a consortium of Israeli, American and European investors. They are all VIPs and the Israelis are politically active and powerful. So why would they risk destroying or damaging their cash cow? They are all making millions from the place. It would actually be hard for them not to make enormous profits. All the infrastructure was paid for by EU aid, the electricity and water is being paid for by the Israeli tax payer and labor is dirt cheap. The real question to ask any Israeli politician or spokesperson is what percentage of the Gaza luxury complex do you own?

The fact is we are fighting a very difficult PR war, weather we like it or not. Ctiing off essentials to Gaza will bring on a big wave of bad PR.

Of course, we wish Netanyahu would be able to say: "Look, you guys voted for Hamas - you knew what you're getting"... but this is not the word of telling the truth, unfortunately so...

your question seems naive- Israel accepted a responsibility to the people of Gaza to supply them with the basic necessities of life. We can't keep the moral high ground by shutting off these basic necessities - any more than if we just carpet bombed them into submission. if not anything else it would be a chillul HaShem of catastrophic proportions...

Perhaps, the best outcome would be for a Palestinian rocket to fall on the the power, water or gas lines.
