a classic google search of branzburg v hayes brings up wikipedia (yes i know its wikipedia, but i trust it more than i trust charlie (from past experience)) says this law is only in front of a GRAND JURY a classic google search of this case doesnt bring up that it was done through a grand jury, just a judge

This is typical Fox News misinformation. The Supreme Court ruled in 1972 that there is no constitutional right for reporters to withhold sources from criminal investigations. (Branzburg v. Hayes). Most states have enacted some statutory protection, but all have limits. The judge has apparently decided that in this case the facts qualify for the exception provided for in Colorado’s shield law.
