Obama Campaign Runs From Strategist’s Insult On Ann Romney

The Obama campaign was scrambling Thursday to distance itself from comments made by a top Democratic strategist who accused Ann Romney, wife of presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, of having “never worked a day in her life.”

“Guess what, (Romney’s) wife has actually never worked a day in her life,” Hilary Rosen said Wednesday evening on CNN.

Romney immediately responded with a debut tweet, sparking a Twitter storm.

“I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys,” tweeted Romney, a 64-year-old mother of five and grandmother of 16. “Believe me, it was hard work.”

Top Obama campaign officials then took to Twitter in an attempt to distance themselves and the re-election effort from Rosen’s comments.

“I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize,” Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a tweet.

Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod tweeted: “Also Disappointed in Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney. They were inappropriate and offensive.”

Rosen continued to tweet herself, adding, “I’ve nothing against @AnnRomney. I just don’t want Mitt using her as an expert on women struggling $ to support their family. She isn’t.”

And later: “@AnnDRomney Please know, I admire you. But your husband shouldn’t say you are his expert on women and the economy,” Rosen tweeted.

  1. Don’t the Democrats want to make it illegal for a woman to stay home and raise a family? It’s been part of the left-wing agenda for years (think of the Israeli and Soviet collective settlements). If mommies raise children, how will the government teach the kids what to believe?

  2. I’m pretty sure you’re confusing the Democratic Party with a different party in one of the countries you mentioned. Couldn’t tell you which (Mapai maybe?). Either way, no that’s not something Democrats want.

  3. This is definitely an insult to all woman who take care of their family. I would not accomplish half as much in my life if my wife did not stay home and take care of the children
and all the other things a stay at home mothers do. Being pregnant with 5 children and raising them to become upstanding citizens is a big challenge more than any work place challenge. I am sick already of obama’s campaign to pit one against the other. Black against white, hispanic againt white, poor against rich, woman against the government, and now working moms against stay at home moms.
obama has taking the country the wrong way and is trying to start a civil war.

  4. akuperma, for the sake of honesty, can you give the readership the source for your claim that “Democrats want to make it illegal for a woman to stay home and raise a family”? Or, we shouldn’t hold our breath?

  5. Obama should fire this lady Rosen for her stupid comments. But of course, he won’t. If it was REpublicans who had done this, dems would be screaming for her head! #3, you are right. Obama and his thuggy dems are destroying this country as quickly as they can. And if they C”V win this election, we are DONE for!
