(VIDEO AND PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

This year, Yom Yerushalayim was special, marking fifty years since the liberation of Yerushalayim from Jordanian occupation in the June 1967 Six Day War. Following is a wrap-up of event from the Jerusalem police spokesman unit along with a photo essay.

“The Flag Parade has ended and tens of thousands participated, without incident. Police this year permitted marchers to break into different routes; one via Shar Shechem (Damascus Gate) to the Kosel while others went via Sultan Suleiman and entered the Kosel via Shar HaAshpot (Dung Gate) as a group entered via Shar HaArayot (Lion’s Gate) to the Kosel.

Police moved quickly and made two arrests when residents of the eastern capital pulled and Palestinian flags and shouted at marchers. They were confrontational when approached by police.

In addition, one Jew was arrested after throwing a bottle at left-wingers protesting at Kikar Tzahal. Police and border police were out in large numbers and they stood prepared for events as they occurred.
