Beginning In June: Any Taxi Will Be Permitted To Pick Up Passengers From Ben-Gurion Airport

Director of Israel Ports Authority Yaakov Ganot announced that beginning on Monday, 4 Sivan, all licensed taxis will be permitted to pick up passengers from Ben-Gurion International Airport until further notice. This is due to bureaucratic delays in reaching decision on the tender release on the matter, resulting in long lines for passengers seeking taxis at the airport.

Hadar Lod and Gett Taxi offered a fare with a 31% discount for passengers, but when they received the authorization to operate, they conceded that cannot stand by their own terms – offering such a significant discount. After the registration process by app operators in Israel is completed, persons will be order a taxi using one of the smartphone apps operating in Israel. The Hadar Lod Company had the exclusive rights but the contract expires next week.

To date, only authorized taxis could enter lines to pick persons up from the airport but now this is changing.

Port Authority officials hope there will be more cabs available to relieve some of the pressure of arriving passengers.
