Woman Suffers Cardiac Arrest On El Flight From Israel To Belgium; Hatzolah Member Does CPR For 45 Minutes [VIDEO]

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

An El AL flight had to make an emergency landing on Sunday after a woman suffered a cardiac arrest.

A passenger on the flight tells YWN that approximately 45 minutes after takeoff, the flight crew on Flight LY333 from Tel Aviv to Belgium was alerted to a woman who had taken ill. The crew began looking for medical personnel, and found passenger Shmulie Markowitz, who is a member of Antwerp Hatzolah.

Markowitz found the woman in cardiac arrest, and began CPR.

The flight immediately made a decision to return to Israel, and landed in Ben Gurion Airport around 45 minutes later.

An EMS crew along with Paramedics from Magen David Adom met the plane on the tarmac.

The woman had regained a pulse just after landing.

She was in critical condition, and was on life support as the ambulance departed for the hospital.

  1. While I am very glad that a first-responder was present and able to help, I think
    1) it is inappropriate for someone to video a resuscitation.
    2) it is inappropriate to post such a video.
Let’s think for a second if that was one of us, or our mother or grandmother. Is it not an invasion of privacy?
Unfortunately, this is a symptom of a society that loves to ogle, and thinks that if you don’t have a picture, it didn’t happen…

  2. The astounding level of determination and value for a human life to sustain CPR for 45 minutes under those circumstances or any circumstances. Its an inspiration. [ And oh my gosh lets all get in shape!!] and yes how amazingly creepy to video this.

  3. @eparosh – you make a very good point. I was on a flight from TA to UK & a 15 year old had a major epileptic fit. I was about 3 rows behind on the aisle and I couldn’t watch, I felt like a voyeur. But I did hear the conversations of the Hatzalah man treating her. Couldn’t the staff have curtained the area off or moved the lady to first class where there is more space.
