PHOTOS: Baking Matzos At Kikar Safra

‘Matza Kikar’ began on Wednesday 2 Nissan, the pre-Pesach program permitting people to bake matzos at Safra Square, Jerusalem City Hall. The pre-Yomtov program is ongoing for a third consecutive year, and it is being hosted in a very large tent in the promenade outside City Hall, headed by Councilman (Bayit Yehudi) Dov Kalmanovich, who holds the culture portfolio in the city government in cooperation with Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu and the Igud HaKehillos.

Persons taking part will receive a box with three matzos for seder. There is no charge. The baking continues today, Thursday.

  1. I haven’t been there, so I don’t know first hand about what’s going on, however, based on the first picture, there’s a serious halachic problem here. The matzos are clearly in the sun, and according to the Shulchan Aruch, this is prohibited. I don’t know whether it makes the matzos forbidden after the fact, but one may certainly not do this as a matter of course.
