Stormy Motzei Shabbos Protests in Yerushalayim

hIn response to the 20-day jail term given to talmid yeshiva Eli Cohen, protests continued in Yerushalayim on motzei Shabbos as once again garbage cans were set ablaze.

Protestors set trash cans ablaze and blocked Eshkol Blvd. in the capital. At least seven people were arrested. The announcement of planned protests spread via WhatsApp groups. Protests were held at Kikar Shabbos, the Chords Bridge, Shmuel HaNavi and the Ramot area as well.

There are also reports that spontaneous protests were held in Bnei Brak and Yerushalayim during the night.

Before Shabbos there were rumors that the yeshiva talmid, who refused to report to an induction center would be released before yomtov due to efforts by Shas MKs Eli Yishai and Aryeh Deri but it was later learned the young man will be imprisoned for 20 days, including the entire yomtov.

On erev Shabbos, davening was held near the Jerusalem induction center on Rashi Street followed by an hour of dancing. Thousands took part in the event. A similar tefilla was held on Friday night on Rabbi Akiva Street near Gan Warsaw in Bnei Brak.

  1. In all honesty, (please don’t insult me), do protests really help the current situations or make them worse? Is the government actually gunna say “oh! They’re protesting! Let’s free him:-)”. Can someone get me on the boat? Cause I totally missed it. Thanks in advance

  2. The simple solution would be to stop supplying trashcans and dumpsters in these areas, and then raise arnona and city taxes to pay for new ones.

  3. let it be clear what the outrage is about.. “there are convicted violent criminals who are being let home for the seder due to respect for the religious holiday and this yeshiva bochurel is being denied those same rights.”

  4. Dear Editor,

In fact, after he was arrested the bochur asked to fill out the IDF paperwork he had declined to fill out until then and he has since been released.
