Knesset to Discuss the Economic Ramifications of Operation Protective Edge

idfHaving gathered the required 25 signatures to compel a special session, the Knesset on Thursday 9 Elul will hold a session to discuss the economic ramifications of Operation Protective Edge, which lasted for fifty days.

The discussion will surround the program to fortify Sderot and Gaza border communities as well as the problems faced by residents of cities including Ashkelon, Ashdod and Beersheva, which because of their location are not entitled to the same aid as communities situated within 40km of Gaza.

The initiative for the special session was made by MK (Labor) Stav Shafir. She and others supporting the session are seeking to compel the coalition to formulate an emergency assistance plan for all the residents of southern Israel that were hard hit by rocket fire, not just the communities up to the 40km mark.

Residents of the cities mentioned as well as other cities are angry, accusing the government of failing to fulfill its responsibility towards residents whose lives and businesses were impacted by the warfare.
