Last Operation Protective Shield Wounded Leaves Soroka Medical Center


kasDoctors and nurses from the intensive care unit and orthopedics were on hand to bid Gadi Yarkoni continued success in his rehabilitation as he was discharged from Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva on Monday, 20 Elul. Yarkoni was the last civilian wounded by Hamas rocket fire in Operation Protective Edge.

The 47-year-old father of three was seriously wounded when he was struck by a mortar rocket an hour before the ceasefire that ended the warfare went into effect. Ze’ev Etzion and Shachar Melamed HY”D were killed in that same attack.

Yarkoni has a long difficult road ahead as both of his legs were amputated below the knee, however he and his medical team are optimistic. Members of Soroka’s staff asked him to come back and visit and they hope to see him walk in after rehabilitation.

Gadi told reporters that he is a different person than the one that was admitted to the hospital and he is grateful to the medical professionals that fought and saved his life.
