Minister Lapid: We Don’t Want New Elections Now


lapFinance Minister Yair Lapid announced he is not interested in early elections. He explained he does not wish to break away from the coalition but he will not hesitate if compelled to do so.

As tensions surrounding Lapid’s Zero VAT Bill mount between the senior minister and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Lapid on Thursday 23 Elul spoke of the importance of passing his bill into law and the importance of not raising taxes..

Lapid used the forum to explain he does not wish to leave the coalition or head to elections, but he will not hesitate to do so if necessary. Earlier in the week Yesh Atid colleague Science Minister Yaakov Peri stated that the party will not change its position and if Prime Minister Netanyahu wants to go to elections, so be it.

Coalition tensions continue to rise as the prime minister and Yesh Atid exchanges accusations, each insisting the other is trying to break the coalition to compel early elections.
