O’Hare, Midway Airports Nearing Normal Capacity

planeThe Federal Aviation Administration says Chicago’s airports are nearing normal activity after a fire at an air traffic control center last week brought flights to a halt.

The FAA said Tuesday morning that data through midnight showed air traffic flow at O’Hare International Airport was at more than 80 percent of last Monday. It was about 90 percent at Midway International Airport.

A Naperville man is charged in federal court with setting a fire Friday at an Aurora control center and then trying to kill himself. The damage caused more than 2,000 flights to be canceled, disrupting travel nationwide.

The FAA has said it estimates the airports will be a full capacity in about two weeks.
