Lipman Renews Efforts to Divide Beit Shemesh

lipMK (Yesh Atid) Dov Lipman is working with his party’s leader, Finance Minister Yair Lapid to advance the program to divide Beit Shemesh into two cities; one chareidi and one non-chareidi. Lipman is a resident of Beit Shemesh and appears to favor the plan that would separate Ramat Beit Shemesh from Beit Shemesh, thereby effectively removing the majority of the chareidi population from “old Beit Shemesh”.

Lipman feels that today, the non-chareidi residents of the city are not receiving an equal share of municipal services and the best solution is to divide the city into two. Supporters of dividing the city feel Mayor Moshe Abutbul, who is affiliated with the chareidi community is not advancing projects in the non-chareidi areas. This includes sport areas, libraries, cultural activities and more.

Lipman prepared his plan, which he presented to the finance minister in the hope of bringing him on board to assist in pushing the division plan forward.

After Abutbul was reelected in the city’s municipal elections the non-chareidi faction challenged the outcome in court. A second election was held and once again, Abutbul was reelected. Nevertheless, the non-chareidi faction remains hopeful that the division plan will be realized one day in the future as the chareidi Ramat Beit Shemesh area continues growing.

  1. the idea certainly has appeal, but then many cities will need devision. Long run people need to learn to give and take, to live with each other. Methinks.

  2. Nebach..ridiculous fellow.

Once his “foie grass” (forced feeding)iniative collapsed,he’s been flopping around seeking just some issue to put his hat on

  3. Any city or town which the religious lost out in previous elections (i.e.most of the country )and were forced to swallow, would they also be entitled to retroactively secede?

  4. in the 3rd paragraph, it should say “Lipman”, not “Litzman” – lehavdil, don’t EVER mix these 2 names – rasha & tzaddik

Wow, we just came out of Hoshana Raba, and someone doesn’t even take one day after the site comes back up to start spouting lashon hara. This must be some kind of new speed record.

  6. This whole Lipman-Beit Shemesh saga is actaully good . For it reveals to many confused people who this Rasha really is. Despite his pious claims that his general behaviour is to ‘help’ the Chareidim, this shows what his real agenda is; hate and comtempt for Chareidim . Because no one could argue this helps Chareidim even in the twisted secular sense of ‘ help’.
