Rabbi Avichai Ronsky Backs Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu

ronskyFormer Chief IDF Rabbi Brigadier-General Avichai Ronsky has come out in support of Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita to become the next Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim.

While there are more than a few prominent rabbonim in the dati leumi community backing Rabbi Shlomo Amar Shlita, Rabbi Ronsky on Monday morning 26 Tishrei, a day ahead of the election, announced his backing for Rabbi Eliyahu.

Rabbi Ronsky cited Rav Eliyahu is a major talmid chacham who spread Torah everyone and the type of rav he wishes to see at the helm of Yerushalayim.

Some fear that Rabbi Eliyahu will divide the dati leumi vote and hand the chareidim a victory as a result. This includes Rabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita, who would like to see Rabbi Eliyahu drop out of the race towards guaranteeing a win for Rabbi Shlomo Amar Shlita, who is backed by the Bayit Yehudi party and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.
