Baby Yuval Heading Home After 81 Days Hospitalization

yAfter 81 one days in a preemie unit Baby Yuval was released from Wolfson Hospital in Holon. Yuval was born weighing just 969 grams (2.13 lbs.) when his mother was in the beginning of her seventh month. He parents and the medical team were at his side for the past months.

Mrs. Kosovsky explains that her pregnancy was uneventful until week 26, when she was placed on pregnancy watch after developing cervical stenosis. After Yuval was born one of his parents was always at his side, communicating with him via the incubator. They were only permitted to hold him after he gained a bit of weight. He was fed his mother’s milk via a nasogastric tube until he could ingest food orally, and now, at the weight of 2.67kg (5.8 lbs.) he is released to go home with his parents.

Yuval is home but constantly monitored and the medical experts will carefully monitor he development. Mom explains “at times he simply forgets to breathe and then I connect him to a monitor. We have a way to go. Now he is a half year old but developmentally speaking he is like a three-month old. We are told we should not take him to places where there are many people until he is a year old because at present, his immunization system is not fully developed”.

  1. What is so special about this story to appear in YNW ? Preemies are born everyday and baby Yuval wasn’t even that small. Did he have a Bris already that he already has a name ?
