CHILLUL BAIS HA’KNESSES: Fashion Show Held in Tel Aviv Shul as Choir Sings Shalom Aleichem

The response to the chilul Beis Knesses Beit El in Tel Aviv was far from complimentary after it was decided to hold a fashion show in the shul that included women parading in immodest attire as the shul choir sang Shalom Aleichem.

Some 2.5 weeks ago arsonists burned some Russian language books in a hall of the shul and left graffiti “In a place where law are legislated books are burned”. The incident was perceived as a left-wing price tag attack. The following day mincha was held with many participants including officials from Tzohar Rabbonim including Rabbi David Stav.

This shul was in the news again for on Tuesday 24 Kislev it was host to a fashion show inside the shul. Five men in taleisim stood on the bimah singing Shalom Aleichem as the women marched through.

Tzohar Rabbonim released a condemnatory message questioning how anyone could authorize using a shul for such an event.

The shul’s rav says he was not made aware of the event.

The PR person for the fashion agency apologized but explained the shul agreed so they understood it to be okay.

Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett called it “chutzpah” and decried “the lack of kovod for Kodshei Yisrael”.

“This disgrace to the shul represents crossing a red line. One who does this should change professions. Simply a disgrace!” Bennett concluded.

  1. This might not please people, but VERY OBVIOUSLY frum people making headlines throughout the world with all kinds of scandals, is in most sane people’s opinion, way more despicable and damaging than any fashion show held at any location, with any accompanying song.
