NY Electronics Recycling Law Starts Jan. 1

er

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding New Yorkers that as of January 1, old electronic equipment must be recycled, not thrown in the trash.

That includes computers, cell phones, televisions, stereos and other devices that plug in or run on batteries.

On DEC’s electronics recycling web page, consumers will find the brand of equipment they wish to recycle, as well as a link to the manufacturer’s recycling program webpage and a toll-free number for information about recycling.

Electronic equipment manufacturers who sell in New York are required to accept for recycling or reuse their brand of equipment, as well as one piece of the same type of electronic waste of any manufacturer’s brand.

Find recycling options and locations on DEC’s website at http://bit.ly/NYewaste .
