obboSpeaker John Boehner has invited President Barack Obama to deliver the State of the Union speech on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The House Republican leader sent a letter to Obama on Friday formally inviting him to deliver the prime-time speech.

  1. For the last century, presidents have always delivered the “State of the Union” in person (prior to that it was done by letter and read out loud). For the last generation, starting with Reagan, a great deal of showmanship has gone into it. This isn’t actually a matter of discretion on anyone’s part.

  2. fyi, i know its protocol to “invite the president” however it also is protocol to ask congress before granting amnesty, and normalizing relations with a country
