Donor Contributions $5 Million To Mir Yerushalayim

YWN has confirmed that an anonymous donor graciously contributed $5 million dollars to the Mir Yerushalayim yesterday. The donor, who lives in Los Angeles, was a close Talmid of Hagon HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel ZATZAL, who was Niftar suddenly three weeks ago.

The money was given to kick-start a campaign to help the Yeshiva pay their debts and continue to run the operation.

As YWN has previously reported, the Mir Yerushalayim has found itself in deep financial straits, and is currently between $10 and $20 Million in debt.

Additionally, the new Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Lazer Yudel Finkle Shlita is embarking on a fund-raising mission shortly, and will be visiting the United States.

Leading Gedolim have joined together to assist the Yeshiva pull itself out of debt, and help stabilize itself. Amongst the Gedolim involved are Hagon Rav Aaron Leib Shteinman, Hagon Rav Chaim Kanievsky, Rav Don Segal as well as many others.

  1. 1- Between 10 and 20 is a big range. Can’t they be more exact??
2- Hopefully this will inspire other people who can give to help Mir AND their own local Yeshivos. No one is having it easy!!
Tizku L;Mitvos. There is nothing as great as the zechus of supporting Torah!!

  2. While a $5 million donation goes a long way and is indeed an impressive amount, the only purpose in publicizing it would be to encourage others of means to contribute as generously as they’re able to. To me however, a $1K donation from someone who’s struggling to pay tuition while living paycheck to paycheck is way more impressive & inspiring than a $5 million donation from somebody who may have $100 million++ & the ability & expectation to earn many millions a year. But no one wants to read about Joe Shmo in Flatbush or Lakewood who gave $1,000

  3. What a Zchus HaRabim – Philanthropists have a tendency to donate huge sums toward buildings and get to name them …Here the donation is unprecedented in size, anonymous, and it’s to cover past debts and maintenance!

Thank you for supporting Torah and strengthening the entire world – Ilmalei Brisi Yomam Valayla Chukkos Shomayim Vaaretz Lo Samti…

  4. The anonymous donor has a real love and chashivus for torah and for lomdei torah what a zechus he has. Hopefully this can serve as a zechus for the entire community of Los Angeles in this time of many unfortunate tragedies all I can say is that the city of LA has some real special balei tzedaka that not only give graciously but do it with real love and happines I can personally testify to this as being the recipient of such great balei tzedaka. Yasher koach to mr. “anonymous”

  5. FR – Why? The article doesnt mention his name?

Letz – How do you know this $5mm wasnt as much of a struggle for this man as $1,000 is for you or $100 isnt for me? Or maybe you feel guilty because you know you should be topping the $5 million?

  6. Ashrecha to Mr. Anonymous! I feel proud to sit near him in shul. May this truly be an inspiration to others to follow his example. And yes, that includes $1,000 or whatever one can afford from us simpler ones. This would go a long way in reducing the astronomical deficit this great yeshiva is presently in. Imagine if all (or most) alumni would contribute their share, it would have a tremendous effect in erasing the deficit. The koach of the rabim is very powerful.
I call upon all alumni to please show your hakoras hatov and contribute whatever you can l’iluy nishmas our esteemed and beloved Rosh Hayeshiva, Harav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, zichrono levracha. May this be a zechus for all of us and all of Klal Yisroel.
