Lakewood: Mitt Romney To Attend Fundraiser At Lake Terrace Hall

Mitt Romney will be back in New Jersey this week for a fundraiser in Lakewood hosted by attorney Larry Bathgate II and Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore.

The Romney event is set for Wednesday afternoon at Lake Terrace hall. The invitation says a donation of $1,000 pays for the reception, $10,000 a VIP photo reception and $25,000 a roundtable with the candidate. Former Gov. Tom Kean, his son Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr. (R-Union), Sen. Jim Holzapfel (R-Ocean) and Atlantic County GOP Chairman Keith Davis are expected to attend along with about 700 people.

“We’re looking forward to a large number of people and we hope to exceed expectations as far as the dollars are concerned,” Bathgate said. “There’s been a lot of enthusiasm for Governor Romney and we’re excited about having Governor Romney in Lakewood.”

Bathgate has been a prominent fundraiser for the national Republican Party dating back to President Ronald Reagan. He and Gilmore organized visits to Lakewood by U.S. Sen. John McCain in 2008 and Vice President Dick Cheney in 2004.

  1. It should be clearly explained to Mr. Romney that the orthodox community of Lakewood, which measures in the tens of thousands, are practically all out-of-town for the summer recess.

Any lack of crowd from that community is simply due to the above.

For the most part, practically 100% of that community will indeed be voting for Romney.

  2. I don’t believe that ALL of the Lakewood kehillah will be “out of town” for the summer recess. Perhaps a few go to the shore or a bunglaow colony but those are not the wealthy yidden who would pay $1,000 for a treifus dinner with Romney anyway.

P.S. Look at the election returns in 2008 for Lakewood and Atlantic county on the website of the NJ Board of Elections. While McCain got the majority of votes cast, you will be surprised Obama’s percentages in the frum communities. Maybe the Rav’s political directives are not as powerful among the BMG crowd as say in KJ.
