NYC Councilman Chaim Deutsch Appointed To Speaker’s Leadership Team

At a New York City Council meeting on Thursday, newly elected Speaker Corey Johnson announced that Councilman Chaim Deutsch was appointed as Chairman of the Veterans Committee.

Deutsch will also be a part of Speaker Johnson’s leadership team, where he will serve alongside several other key members of the City Council. He will remain a member of the Aging, Education, and Public Safety Committees, and has also been appointed to the Land Use, Sanitation, and Transportation Committees.

“I’m honored to be asked to serve as the Chairman of the Veterans Committee, a role that I can use to advocate for the needs of New York City’s more than 200,000 veterans. We have a moral and ethical responsibility to support our veterans, who gave so much to our country. Right now, nearly 2,000 New York City veterans are homeless. Many are struggling with their mental health, and with obtaining jobs and housing. I’m excited to continue the work of Councilman Eric Ulrich, who served as the Veterans Committee Chairman last session and did a tremendous job to elevate the role of the Committee and create the Department of Veteran’s Services. I’m also looking forward to working with Department of Veteran’s Services Commissioner Loree Sutton, Speaker Johnson, and members of the Committee to fight for the services and resources that our veterans need.”

“Speaker Johnson has been a great friend to me and to my district, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to serve as a member of his leadership team. I’m looking forward to to continuing to sit on the Aging, Education, and Public Safety Committees, and I’m excited to get started working on the Land Use, Sanitation, and Transportation Committees.”
