WATCH: Rex Tillerson Delivers On-Camera Statement After Being Fired By Trump, In Tweet

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he is delegating his responsibilities at the end of the workday Tuesday to Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan.

Speaking to reporters hours after being unceremoniously fired by President Donald Trump in a tweet, Tillerson says he will be formally stepping down from his post at the end of the month.

Tillerson is calling for an orderly transition to Mike Pompeo, the CIA director whom Trump has designated as Tillerson’s successor pending confirmation by the Senate. He encouraged State Department employees to remain focused on their jobs.

  1. Only a vile, egotistical, repulsive and self-centered individual would fire a member of his own cabinet on twitter without having the basic decency and courtesy to pick up the phone and speak to him in person. Trump is a disgusting individual.

  2. Rex Tillerson favored the Iran deal. Once again, Trump is showing his love for Israel and the Jews by getting rid of a cabinet member who has demonstrated support for Israel’s arch enemy. Trump is a hero. Trump 2020!

  3. Attention Editor: When you post headlines like the one to this story, you are blatantly misinforming people who rely on YWN as their sole source of news. (and there are plenty of them)
Tillerson’s removal has been in the works for weeks already (if not months). To say that he “was fired in a tweet” is just plain false, and makes YWN look stupid. CNN average viewership barely averages 600,000 on a daily basis (a minuscule number in the TV industry) for reasons exactly like this. Please do not go down that road!!!

  4. Evidently Mr. Trump has forgotten that he is no longer on television. A public “You’re fired!” on Twitter prime time is not the usual way a head of state solves a personnel issue. It is’t just a local problem. The world is watching, and I think by now a lot of them are thinking “amateur hour.” How much influence will the US continue to have in the world if our President conducts the business of state as if he were still a New York City television personality? Yes, Reagan was a TV star too, but he served an apprenticeship of his own in local government, including as governor of California, before he went to the White House.

Mr. Trump’s decidedly nonstandard ways are leading to the loss of US leadership. Yes, we’re still very, very big and people must take us into account, but being cautious about dealing with us and accepting our role as moral leader are two entirely different things. And remember – the US has always been Israel’s friend. If the US loses its influence, it doesn’t bode well for Israel.
