Gas Hits $5 A Gallon In NYC; Expected To Rise Even Higher

With the summer travel season fast approaching, gas prices are on the rise but some people are getting sticker shock in Manhattan.

Regular gas has hit $5 a gallon at at least one station. A Mobil station on 11th Ave. in Hell’s Kitchen has raised its prices to $4.999 a gallon. That’s well above the current average for the five boroughs.

Prices are on the rise in the area, going up about a penny a day. In New York City, the current average is $3.17, so is Westchester. Long Island is a bit cheaper at $3.09, while New Jersey comes in at $2.92.

The price gap has shrunk between New York and New Jersey after a huge gas tax increase was enacted in the Garden State during the Christie administration.

To avoid paying a higher gas price, drivers are advised to look up cheap gas stations online before they travel and not be afraid to travel a little out of the way to find a better deal.

“Drivers will see the highest Memorial Day gas prices since 2014,” Robert Sinclair Jr. from AAA said, adding now’s the time to look out for price gouging.

In the Bronx, two Citgo stations on the Hutchinson River Parkway are selling their gas at almost $4.00, while one Mobile station on Manhattan’s West Side was selling gas for a whopping $4.99.

  1. At the lowest point of the “cheap” gas wave last year, gas was still over 50 cents more per gallon than similarly priced barrels were going for during the Bush years. In other words, if gas was at 40 bucks a barrel in Bush, and 40 bucks a barrel last year, you paid a lot more. Why? Obama era regulations do add cost to the bottom line.
    However, I do agree, Thank you President Trump for making us the world leader in energy. The USA is on the road to #1, and we are currently an EXPORTER!

    Lastly, since NJ has raised its gas taxes like the article says, hows those infrastructure improvements? Got nice flowerbeds along the roadways like those cheap states down south do?

  2. The two gas stations are the same gas station just in opposite sides of the hutch because it’s a rest stop gas station (which is higher than a normal one)

    The ones near my house are going for 3.05 hardly newsworthy

  3. Obama era regulations are the reason for the added cost??? Get real not everything in the world is Obama’s fault. Gas under Obama was cheaper than under Bush and Trump because he didnt start needless wars in Iraq and rip up a functioning nuclear deal with Iran.

    Trump = higher insurance premiums. Trump = higher taxes for NY and NJ.
    Trump = higher gas prices.
    Trump = tarrifs/higher priced goods.
