The rabbonim did not see the holocaust coming – this is well known.

Neither did they anticipate what would happen to Soviet Jews – who would be lost to yiddishkeit… when they yelled at those who tried to demonstrate against Russia for their freedom.

Enough hypocrisy.

I found the editorials nauseating. It is an elitist, arrogant approach to yiddishkeit, which has become the trademark of the litvishe Jewish world. Smug, feeding upon the medinah they so hate, dismissing anyone who does not agree with them. i wonder what Rabbi Lipschutz would have written in 1945, after the destruction of all the yeshivos and kehillos. And I wonder what he would have written in 1948 ,when hundreds of thousands of Jew found refuge and a home in Eretz Israel.
And lastly, since when is Rav Shach ztl infallible? He cannot make a mistake, but Rabbi Akiva ( with Bar kochva), the Shach, (who thought Moshiach is coming in Tach),all the great rabbonim in the thirties who did not see the catstrophe ahead they can make mistakes? How ridiculous to endow our rabbonim with “pope” like authority. And thank you for all the ones who commented negatively on these mauseating articles.

That must be difficult for you, Caring Jew. How do you manage to take care of things without entering the portals of your home?

I’ve been reading your comments, and the most pervasive sentiment I’ve felt from you is an extreme “holier than thou” attitude. You are attempting to give Mussar, but Mussar is better received from one who practices it.

As an aside: Pashute Yid has a beautiful manner of expressing his feelings. Although I may occasionaly disagree with your ideas, Pashuteh Yid, I always learn from your anivus and sincerity. Thank you.

He stated that Halacha has nothing to say about territorial concessions and that the ultimate determination of land for peace was in the hands of Israel’s political and military leadership. So long as they worked in Israel’s best interest, to maximize her secure position in the world, Halacha was satisfied, even if lanad were ceded. I’m not sure that means he would have endorsed the evacuation of Gush Katif. Many of his talmidim muvhakim seem to feel he would not.

Maybe the editor can tell us what his version of achdus is. will it be attained by asking the religious zionists to “come home”? A. This offer is not grounded in reality.B. It’s very condescending at best.You have refused to acknowlege who the Religious Zionists are. They are, as we have learned the hard way from the recent massacre at Mercaz Harav, Toradik Yidden ,cetrtainly no less than ourselves, (sometimes I think even more) with extreme adherence Torah and mitzvos.They lead a tremendously idealistic lifestyle. They only part you saw of them was their passion for Zionism. You failed to acknowledge their level of Avodas Hashem, their Hasmada, their chessed and their tznius. You failed to acknowledge them as real people and put a face on them. Well, they have a face now, don’t they? As a matter of fact they have eight faces now, all of them Torahdik.You refused to acknowledge that there are things in their lives that we can emulate. The simplicity of their lifestyle is one. No designer anything and no need to shop till you drop. You failed to acknowledge anything about them but their Zionism .Then, when their sons were massacred you wrote a sad poem about achdus. I call that disingenuos. ‘We are not triumphal’ you wrote. Triumphal? Sounds like battle rhetoric. Are we at war here? ‘We are not triumphal’ indeed. Anyone who can even express such a sentiment sounds like they’re feeling just a little bit smug.
