Video & Photos: Flatbush Hatzolah Wins Game Against NYPD PBBS

YW-FHVAC vs NYPD-028.jpg(VIDEO & PHOTO LINKS AT END OF ARTICLE) As YWN has reported in the past, Flatbush Hatzolah plays baseball once a week in the summer months against various divisions of the NYPD, FDNY and local hospital doctors & staff.

This past Tuesday evening, Flatbush Hatzolah played against the NYPD PBBS Division (“The Borough”). The game was tied at 2/2 until the 8th inning, when the NYPD took the lead by 2 runs. The following inning, Flatbush Hatzolah scored 6 runs, and the NYPD scored another 2 in the top of the ninth. The final score was 8-6 Hatzolah.

YWN spoke with the captain of the the team Moshe Wulliger about the game. “This was one of the toughest games we have ever played against the NYPD, Moshe said”.

“Their pitcher, Sergent Cunningham pitched an excellent game, and I’d have to say that they were our toughest opponents. Overall it was a great game, and it was a shame that someone needed to lose at the end – but better them then us.”

Raphael Treitel, who serves as the liaison between Flatbush Hatzolah and the NYPD in Brooklyn South and helps organize these games, spoke with YWN about it.

He told us that for the past number of years, Flatbush Hatzolah has been playing weekly summer baseball games against various NYC agencies – such as NYPD and FDNY to foster a spirit of camaraderie and friendship. These ball games have successfully enhanced the unique relationship between the various agencies and Hatzoloh, and gives all a chance to “get out of the work uniform” and further enhance the important partnerships and understanding that the community can really count on. While always competitive, the games have been enjoyed by all.

Precinct commanders rave about the dividends paid off and Brooklyn South Chief Fox himself places great importance on this ongoing successful community interaction.

  1. These guys are setting a terrible example for kids.

How can they play baseball (actually softball) without batting helmets???

Hatzoloh, of all people, should know better and set a better example.
