Lakewood Woman Shot in Head With Flare Gun

LPD1.jpgThe YWN Desk received many emails on Sunday telling us of an incident in Lakewood, NJ involving a shooting, and a SWAT team surrounding a home. Many different rumors and versions of the story were passed around.

Below are the facts of the incident:

On Sunday July 27, 2008, at approx. 10:48AM, Lakewood Police received a call from Kimball Medical Center stating they were treating a female with a single gunshot wound to the head. Officer Dennis Dowden responded and gathered information surrounding the shooting. It was determined that the incident occurred on New York Avenue in Lakewood. Detectives Steven Wexler and Leroy Marshall responded to assist.

Information was developed that the suspect in the alleged shooting, Eberardo Florez-Garcia was possibly still in his residence, on New York Ave, Lakewood. The perimeter of the residence was secured and D/Chief Frederick Capper began the negotiations process with the assistance of Lt. Paul Daly. It was soon determined that the suspect had left the residence prior to the arrival of the initial police officers. The residence was searched by the Lakewood Police Department Special Response Team, and secured.

The room in the residence in which the shooting occurred was processed by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit.

g.jpgDetectives Wexler and Marshall continued the investigation, and charged Eberardo Florez-Garcia, 29 years old, with Aggravated Assault. His bail was set at $30,000.00 no 10% option. Bail was set by Lakewood Municipal Court Judge Basen.

The victim Celene Abrajan-Lucas, was treated and released from Kimball Medical Center with minor injuries. Through the investigation it was determined that the weapon used in the assault was a boat signal flare gun, with a 12 gauge signal flare.

An intense investigation is ongoing; Anyone with information or the whereabouts of Eberardo Florez-Garcia, please call Det. Steve Wexler @732-363-0200 ext 5344, or Det. Leroy Marshall @ 732-363-0200 ext. 5345

  1. this is another example of the rental crisis in Lakewood!.
the home where the shooting took place was recently up for sale. i was hoping that a frum person would buy it and help turn over the neighborhood. what i saw later was that the home was then occupied by ‘unsavory’individuals!!!

recently the hom ewher ethe shooting occured was up for sale. i was hoping that a frum person woul dbuy it and help turn over the neighborhood which is mostly frum but saw taht it was then occupied by non jewish tenants!!!!!!!!

  3. I must be missing something. How can someone be charged and have bail set by a Court if the police do not know his whereabouts?

  4. Chatterbox – there is nothing wrong with non-Jewish tenants. There is everything wrong with ‘unsavory’ individuals whatever religion they are. This story was reported elswhere:

Fallsburg, NY – Police got a call Saturday afternoon about 3:00pm of a vehicle that rolled over a few times on Route 42 and crashed into a bungalow at Friendship Bungalow Colony on La Vista Drive.

The car that missed a turn-off was driven by a drunk 16-year-old boy, who extracted himself out of the vehicle, and start running away, while Yiddish music was still blasting out of the vehicle. Hatzolah responded and was immediately on the scene.

Police gave chase, caught up with the teenager and arrested him.

Would you prefer him as a neighbour?

  5. Saturday afternoon…..???drunk 16 year old??? blasting YIDDISHE music????Those types of boys don’t usually listen to yiddishe music…Story sounds fishy..unless there’s something I’m missing here

  6. These past few weeks Lakewood has been hitting the Headlines here at YWN. Wonder if there is any pattern here?

  7. enough of sinas chinam .why can’t things be resolved in a mature caring manner instead of bashing each other especialy on yeshiva news enough enough with sina and kina live and let live.

  8. Wow, thanks to the Yeshiva World News forum, there is no longer a need to read the secular newspapers – he brings it right to us!!!

  9. P.S. In case anyone can’t tell, I was being sarcastic. I do NOT appreciate having news like this posted in a frum forum. If you would start to publish every such story which took place around frumcommunities, such as, say, BROOKLYN, you would be worse than the Post.

Furthermore, if I have to sift through news like this, which has nothing to do with the frum world, his site will quickly become a waste of time. I come here for news relating to… “The Yeshiva World.”
