My son was mugged on the corner of P and 28th by 3 guys at night. He was also jummped with his friend by 3 public school students one Friday afternoon. Avenue P from E 24th to Nostrand is a secluded area at night because it is only a 6 block stretch and there are no houses on one side from Bedford to 27th. This is is a recipe for danger – also during the day when the public school population roams the area.
I try not to walk there at all.

#12 – FYI, even “YOU” have the right to make a citizens arrest, did you know that? What differentiates you from Shomrim is simply that they put their safety on the line, never knowing if a criminal is armed and are also well versed in the technicalities and legalities of effecting an arrest. As #8 stated, stop picking apart articles and consider giving credit where credit is due, it might score ya points “upstairs”…

Well yeah they can’t formally arrest them. All they do is follow them? Haha. In Crown Heights they tackle. Anyway they can technically arrest them the same way I can arrest someone and you can too, it’s call a citizens arrest.

I don’t understand why YWN continues to insist on using the words “Shomrim” and “arrest” together. Shomrim are not police. They do not arrest anyone. They followed the suspects, but do not give them credit for arresting them!

Great job shomrim. Obviously Hashem is happy with what you do and has put a member in the right place at the right time. I also hope that these thugs get some prison time or juvie for this or else it will happen again in a few weeks to some other kid.
