Haifa, Israel – Hizbollah’s increased threats against Israel’s northern communities has led United Hatzalah to a strategic decision to expand it’s emergency medical response capabilities in the region. United Hatzalah President Eli Beer recalled the difficult era of the Second Lebanon War when medics began to show signs of burnout from the ongoing conflict. Eli established the nationwide United Hatzalah organization as a key element in the successful response provided by the volunteers both local and from other districts who pitched in to help. Nonetheless, the need to expand the force is great. United Hatzalah national headquarters has authorized a regional expansion of another 30 medics.

Following the government’s ground-breaking privatization of EMT training, United Hatzalah will be training its medics with the Natali-Seculife company. The initial 150-hour course will begin May 15 and is nearing capacity. The medics will train on the modern Natali-Seculife northern training facility. The practical focus of the course will include awareness of the special risks associated with Mass Casualty Incidents in sensitive areas like Haifa’s port and oil refineries.

The United Hatzalah Farkas Division led by Unit Coordinator Avraham Chaskelson will be guiding the incoming medics in special needs of the area. The Farkas Haifa Division had been adopted by Chilean businessman Leonardo Farkas in 2008. Mr. Farkas had expressed an interest in strengthening the strategically important city. Through his support the Farkas Haifa Division has in fact proven its expertise during its frequent field operations and interaction with IDF Home Front Command, Fire, Police and emergency medical services in the city.
