It’s a known fact that criminals specifically target Frum Jews because they are known not to fight back. Cowardly lowlifes have even more fun hurting somebody who isn’t capable of defending himself. It might have made sense in 300-year-ago Poland to restrain ourselves from fighting back due to political/religious/social situation there; however, this approach costs us numerous victims(Lakewood, Woodmere, now Flatbush) in today’s political/social environment. Legal carry licenses would be a good hishtadlus idea; as would teaching practical Krav Maga in yeshivos. Yeah, I know, even a professional would probably get cut when defending from a knife – but the assailant would be missing an eyeball and have his knife sticking from his Gluteus Maximus in the end of the day. Other animals would then think twice before attacking the Jews.

And two weeks ago, in the middle of a beautiful Shabbos afternoon a group of innocent Bais Yaakov girls, on their way to a se’udah as part of their class’ Shabbaton, a group of non-Jews, after making a vocal ruckus, shocked , embarrassed, and traumatized the girls as a result of certain behaviors not becoming of any human.

We need to provide a warm home for our sons and daughters. What happened to B’nos and Pirchei groups. What happened to tehilim groups. The afternoons are getting longer. Let’s bring our sons to the Bais Medrash and our daughters to the Bubbies, Zeidies, or just to a neighbor who could use some cheering up. A Shabbos group, a board game, taking turns reading from a great book, a discussion of current events. Anything, but keep them safe and productive. Keep them close and wanted. Keep them happy and worthy. Protect them like the diamonds they are.

A week ago on Motzaei Shabbos, at about 9:30 p.m., I passed two young yeshiva boys who appeared to be brothers, approximately 7 and 5 years old, walking home alone from the pizza shop in this EXACT location. It struck me as a bit unusual and risky to allow two such young children on the street at night alone especially at that hour. I imagine they lived a block or two away, but still… I did not intervene and regretted doing so 5 minutes later!

NOW, a week later after THIS incident, how much more so I regret not walking those children home! PARENTS: Where are your brains? We all take certain calclated risks every day getting into a car, walking across a street, etc. BUT why would we allow two small boys to walk alone at 9:30 at night EVEN IN FLATBUSH, AND EVEN ONE BLOCK?!?!
