Chinese ‘Obama Fried Chicken’ Offends Al Sharpton

A fast-food restaurant called Obama Fried Chicken was derided in America yesterday as a racist rip-off.

Its sign shows a grinning caricature of President Obama’s head on a skinny version of Colonel Sanders’ body.

Below it, written in Chinese, is the slogan: “We’re so cool, aren’t we?”

“It’s insulting, offensive and plays to racial stereotypes,” the Rev. Al Sharpton told The Post.

“What makes it even worse is that when we deal with this global competition between the US and China, for them to be mocking the leader of the free world, I find it even more appalling.”

“You can’t degrade the president like that,” Momodou Jallow, 43, said. “It’s sketched that way to make fun of Obama so people will buy fried chicken.

“How can you take [Colonel Sanders’] body and put Obama’s head on it and call it OFC? It’s disrespectful,” he said.

  1. He doesn’t seem to worried about the Chinese killing and abusing their people on a daily bases. Nor does he complain about anything else really wrong with that backward country.
Oh. They knocked off a company. What a novelty.
Let’s March on Washington! Walking, talking Opportunist.

  2. The Reverend with out a pulpit, Al “Not So” Sharpton would never have said it had we have a white President. He is a very dangerous buffoon.

  3. What your article neglected to mention is that this was in Beijing (the capital of China). A “southern colonel” would mean nothing there, whereas Obama would mean a great deal (he’s much more popular in countries other than then USA). Also, “fried chicken” while being identified with African American cuisine in the United States, is seen as part of American (un-hyphenated) cuisine elsewhere. The ad was actually complementing President Obama, and would have been so understood in China. They changed the sign to identify it with the best known American.

Sharpton is still the jerk he was when he led the Crown Heights pogrom (and thereby became a leader of the Democrat party).

  4. Obama may actually like this campaign.
After all, after November, be”H, he will be looking for a job. I’m sure a famous KFC (or OFC) spokesperson must make good money!

  5. “How can you take [Colonel Sanders’] body and put Obama’s head on it and call it OFC? It’s disrespectful,”

    to which one?

  6. Not sure why some of the commenters here are turning a blind eye to the racial discrimination that is a bitter part of American history, but one thing is certain: associating a black person with fried chicken is a blatant propagation of a racist stereotype.

I’m offended by the ad, and I’m pained by the hurt the ad must inflict on black people. I’m also ashamed by the comments here that seem to support the ad.

If one doesn’t approve of Obama’s policies, then one should criticize his policies; but there can be no justification for supporting the propagation of bigotry. I would also have hoped that people here would be savvy enough to assess the wrong of the ad irrespective of Al Sharpton’s position.
