Grand Jury Has Another Month To Consider Case Against Manhattan Terror Suspect

An accused local terrorist will have to wait a little longer before learning if he will be indicted in an alleged bomb plot targeting soldiers, police and government buildings.

Prosecutors and the defense are giving the grand jury more time to consider the case against Jose Pimentel.

The panel was scheduled to weigh in tomorrow, but Pimentel’s defense lawyer says that deadline is being waived for a month to allow for more research.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment.

Pimentel was born in the Dominican Republic and raised Catholic, but family members say he became interested in Islam shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Pimentel will remain behind bars without bail on charges of weapon possession and conspiracy under state terror laws.

He was arrested after an informant found out he was creating a pipe bomb and threatening to attack certain parts of the city.
