Buses Halted in Yerushalayim Due to Snow Storm (UPDATED 11:22 IL)

10:00 IL: While an inch or two of snowfall may not be news in areas of N. America, it is sufficient to make the weather the day’s top story and that is just what is taking place. The heavy snowfall began at about 8:15am, and it has picked up in intensity in the capital since. The snow is sticking and it has resulted in traffic snarls and unfortunately accidents.

Egged announced moments ago that for the time being, all bus service in the capital has been suspended as plows are working to clear major arteries. It appears the order to halt buses came from Israel Police traffic officials.

In addition to the halting of bus service in Yerushalayim, the following bus lines have stopped operating as well.

TO JERUSALEM: 405, 480 from Tel Aviv.

FROM JERUSALEM: 61, 51, 160, 468, and 179 to Gush Etzion and Shomron.

Regarding other lines, there may be some route changes due to flash flooding and other weather-related road hazards.

10:30: Jerusalem schools have shut down and students were sent home due to the snowfall.

11:22: Partial bus service has resumed in the capital. Commuters are advised to check with Egged before leaving one’s home. The light rail is operating. Regarding travel to areas of Yehuda and Shomron as well as northern Israel, one is advised to check with Egged.

  1. I kept everybody home, just because of this possibility. I figured that it’s not a big deal to give them a snow day off from cheder, especially since it’s Friday anyway.

  2. Ridiculous overreaction today to cancel school after they were already sent.

Part of the day was even sunny and the snow never stuck on the roads. The worst was just some slush.
