Shomron Residents Fear Opening Roads will Lead to Terror

Residents of the Shomron community of Avnei Chafetz are concerned; warning the decision to reopen a road to Arab motorists will lead to another terror attack. Their concerns are prompted by the IDF’s removal of a checkpoint that prevents residents of the neighboring village of Shufa from traveling on the approach road to their community. They protested the removal of the checkpoint on erev Shabbos, but their concerns have fallen on deaf ears.

Elsewhere in Shomron, residents of Elon Moreh also protested over the opening of a road, the daily HaMevaser reports. They are concerned over the decision to permit Arab motorists to travel on the Madison roadway near their community.

The roadway connects the Jewish community to the IDF’s battalion command in the area. The road was closed to Arab motorists during the so-called Second Intifada due to the alarming number of shooting attacks on the road.
