Josh31, there is nothing “well-intentioned” or “progressive” about communist laws such as this one. The left has misappropriated the word “progressive” just as they did “liberal”, because they’re thieves.

The German law in question was passed in 1931 by the then democratic Weimar Republic.
From Wikipedia: “The Reichsfluchtsteuer (“Reich Flight Tax”) was a capital control law implemented in order to stem capital flight from the Weimar Republic.”
The problem is that well intentioned laws passed by progressive governments granting greater powers over the individual can be used by later repressive governments as powerful tools of oppression.

If you don’t want to be called a Nazi or a communist, don’t behave like one. Doesn’t anyone else remember the Soviet “exit taxes” that were protested so loudly 40 years ago? Schumer was probably involved in those protests himself. Now he’s turned into the Soviets.
