PHOTOS: Williamsburg Shomrim Aids NYPD Arrest Of Suspect In Check-Cashing Fraud

Williamsburg Shomrim (WSPU) helped the NYPD arrest a suspect in a fraudulent check cashing scheme.

In recent days, Shomrim has received calls from several people after fraudulent checks were cashed in their bank accounts. On Tuesday, Shomrim advised one such caller to ask his bank to immediately alert him when a check was cashed in his name.

Sure enough, on Wednesday the man’s bank called to alert him that once again a check for a large sum of money from his account was being cashed.

Shomrim units immediately dispatched to Chase Bank on Washington and Flushing Avenues in Williamsburg, and watched the suspect as he exited the bank.

Detectives from the NYPD’s 88th Precinct arrived on scene shortly thereafter to arrest the suspect.

It appears the suspect may have been just one member of a gang cashing fraudulent checks to steal money from people’s accounts. Several thousand dollars in false checks have been cashed in recent weeks.

Shomrim urges the community to be vigilant, and alert authorities immediately to any suspicious activity in their bank accounts.
