More on the Murder of Ukrainian Jewish Professor

A Moroccan man, one of the three suspects in custody in the murder of Lviv, Ukraine trauma surgeon Prof. Leon Friefeld may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when the 60-year-old victim was beaten to death early Friday morning 3 Cheshvan 5773. Police are also indicating that while three people were originally taken into custody, only one appears connected to the fatal attack.

It was first reported that the professor was mostly attacked as a result of three students being tossed out of university for their failing grades. Now police are reporting the motive for the attack appears questionable. Dr. Lriefeld was found in his home on shabbos morning.

According to a Ynet report, Rabbi Elimelech Shochat, head of an American organization dedicated to supporting Jews in the Ukraine, the victim was a prominent member of the Jewish community as well as a leading area physician, respected by all. He stated the loss was most significant and the Jewish community “is grief-stricken” over the loss. Dr. Friefeld was head of the Lviv Hospital trauma unit and his murder is a big loss to that medical facility as well.

  1. Once again, does anyone check this before it’s published? Half of the information is wrong, another half is barely understandable. Dr. Fraifeld was 67 years old. Police had only one person in custody, the suspect unquestionably was under a very strong influence of alcohol and possibly drugs. He was so drunk that he couldn’t be questioned. Dr. Fraifeld was murdered on Friday, close to his home. He was not found at home Shabbos morning – he simply wasn’t alive then. Please check and proofread your articles before publishing.

  2. Also, Dr. Fraifel was not a professor as he never taught in the Lviv Medical University. His father was and his brother is a professor in Ben Gurion University.
