LIPA was created to replace LILCO which ran out of money becvause of the closed Shoreham plant. They currently have no head and a board consisting of lawyers, bankers etc. Their lines are above ground and in trees (you can see this poor planning on Peninsula Blvd.) Very little has been spent securing the lines in high risk areas to avoid downed wires from usual winds. A hurricane with sever flooding and huindreds of downed trees is more than LIPA can handle.

The Governor should appoint professionals in the field to the board and hire experienced managment.

Governor Cuomo IS the management. LIPA is a state agency. The state nationalized it (proably when his father was Governor). Perhaps privatizing it would work. It seems that free market companies do better than once that have been taken over by the government.

Some accuse Obama of being a closet socialist. Here we see an example of why socialism doesn’t work.
