Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island To Remain Closed Through Year’s End

The Statue of Liberty will not be reopening to visitors this year. Even though the statue received very little damage during Sandy, the surrounding docks, a brick promenade, and other facilities on Liberty Island do need repairs.

The main floor and exhibits upstairs are all in tact.

At Ellis Island, which will also remain closed, the storm damaged doors, windows and exhibits in the ferry building among other sites.

A spokeswoman with the National Parks Service says no projected reopening date has been set.
