Israel Begins Glass Recycling Program

After the recycling of plastic bottles has been evaluated as a successful project, environmental officials are now moving to introduce glass recycling receptacles around the country. 600 glass recycling drop off bins will be set into place in 17 cities and municipalities around the country in 2013, including Tzfas, Nesher, Herzliya, Netanya, Givatayim, Nes Tziona, Ashdod, Tel Aviv and Dimona. In 2014, environmental officials plan to add an additional 1,400 receptacles.

Environmental Ministry officials hope Israelis will grow accustomed to using the bins to discard used glass bottles, such as those from bottles of oil, honey, coffee and other products.

Admittedly, Israel lags behind North America and many European nations regarding recycling, but these efforts are most welcome, tardy as they may be.
