Obama has chosen John Kerry as Secretary of State

President Obama will nominate Sen. John Kerry to be Secretary of State, a democrat who spoke to the senator says. His replacement as head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will be Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, according to the Sun-Times.

A formal announcement could come next week, a source told CNN.

Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, withdrew her name from consideration Thursday after heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements regarding the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

  1. There they go again, recycling has-beens. Kerry is past it and not overly friendly to Israel. We need some young blood, not these re-treads.

  2. Let’s have a SWIFT review of his awful character!! This man should have been on the dung heap of history from the second he betrayed his fellow servicemen in the early 70s!

  3. To #1) Yes, Susan is much friendlier to Israel than Kerry. An much more conservative than Kerry. She has clout in the Obama administration and challenges the President when she thinks that he is wrong. As #3 said, Kerry is a weakling.
TO #4) Come on. The word swiftboating is used pejoratively to describe an unfair or untrue political attack. The term from the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth widely publicized, then discredited, campaign against 2004 US Presidential candidate John Kerry.
To all: Why did the GOP, my party, make our President dump Rice? She is much more in step with the mainstream populace than Senator Kerry. Why? Maybe because they want a new, GOP Senator from Mass? Just thinking.

  4. To No. 4

Kerry’s only mistake was not striking back when the lies and character assasination from the so-called “Swiftboat” veterans attacked him during his campaign. Subsequently it was revealed that those few veterans were funded by some the same right wing lunatics who tried to go after Obama but were beaten back really badly. Kerry is highly respected by even the Republicans in the Senate, will be confirmed by an overwhelming majority on a bi-partisan basis and make a great Secretary of State. Is getting really pathethic listening to your rants about everything the President does. He won and will be our President and Commander-in-Chief for the next four years.
